My Final Music Video

My Digipak

This is my final digipak design. Overall I am very pleased with how the outcome turned out. From my research into digipaks of this genre I found that generally they feature design artwork on the from and back covers and then the bands are feature on the inside of the album, hence why I decided to create an original artwork for my digipak (incorporating the colours and themes from my final music video) and then adding actual images from my music video on the inside of the digipak. Further analysis of my digipak is on Evaluation Question 2.

My Poster

This is my Final Poster. I kept the same colour scheme running throughout this the music video and my digipak to clearly show the links between them all. I swapped the design slightly to account for the change in nature of the poster (a live advertising poster). Overall I am very pleased with how this poster turned out and how well it links with my other tasks. A further analysis is on 'Evaluation Question 2'.

Editing our final music video

To fit the genre of our track I wanted to give the picture a quite professional and polished look as this reflects the recording quality of the song. it has a very crisp sound and is recorded very well, so i felt i needed to match this trough techniques used whilst shooting such as manual focus and using a tripod to give a steady image, but also in post production by using colour correction and velocity to create better shots atmospherically.

I added some slow motion shots to fit the tempo change in the music, this added a very emotion effect, some could take is as a comedic element too.
As you can see, the Clip highlighted was slowed down by 25% just to add a little more emotion connection to the final video. I also added this effect to other clips in the video.

Song Lyrics

"Toxic Girl"
In the sky the birds are pulling rain,
in your life a curse has got a name,
makes you lie awake all through the night
that's why.
She's intoxicated by herself,
everyday she's seen with someone else,
and every night she kisses someone new
never you.

You're waiting in the shadows for a chance
because you believe at heart, that if you can,
show to her what love is all about
she'll change.
She'll talk to you with no one else around,
but only if you're able to entertain her,
the moment conversation stops she's gone
again.

Research into the music industry

The concept of showing music videos on cable television was played about with and tried way back in the mid 60's when the Beatles were making videos and films for their music. But back then people still wanted to listen to their radios and not many people had televisions.

The rise of broadcasting music videos began in the early 80's when 'MTV' was created, this channel at the time was one of the biggest video broadcasting channels, showing nothing but the most popular music videos at the time guided by television personalities known as 'video jockeys'. MTV when through lots of different videos stages showing everything from rock, punk, pop and electro pop through the years 1981-2008. whilst there are sister channels of MTV such as 'MTV rocks, MTV pops' the main original channel has switched its focus to younger teenage demographics and is showing mainly reality TV shows with a dramatic drop in broadcasting of music videos. The president of MTV explained the rise of social media outlets such as YouTube are a much more convenient place for artists and consumers to view the products and so he feels 'the novelty of just showing music videos, has just worn off'.

Social media websites (YouTube being the largest video viewing website in the world) have allowed consumers to be able to view videos whenever they like, wherever they like and how ever they like (TV, tablet, Phone) meaning its a much more convenient way for them to view the videos. Not only this, it gives the artists more freedom and variety to create their own channel and post whatever video they like and also see how well their fans enjoy the video. With the rise in technology too, the use of television over social media is dramatically dropping and therefore means it if more likely for consumers to see the music videos on websites such as YouTube rather than TV channels such as MTV or 4Music.

VEVO is a large video hosting channel that operates through YouTube but also have their own video viewing website. Many artists use this platform to release their newest hits and music videos, as its easier and they can have their very own 'vevo' channels so audiences can view all the artists footage in one place.
